Description

A Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in caring for animals. Their duties vary depending on the workplace but generally includes:  
1. Clinical & Medical Support:*  
- *Prepare exam rooms* and set up equipment.  
- *Restrain animals* safely during exams or procedures.  
- *Assist with diagnostics*, such as holding pets for X-rays or lab tests.  
- *Clean and sterilize* surgical instruments.  
- *Administer medications* (under a vet’s supervision).
2. Animal Care & Handling:*  
- *Feed, bathe, and exercise* animals.  
- *Monitor vital signs* (temperature, pulse, respiration).  
- *Provide post-operative care*, like monitoring recovery.  
- *Comfort distressed animals* and keep them calm.
3. Administrative Duties:*  
- *Greet clients* and schedule appointments.  
- *Update medical records* and file lab reports.  
- *Manage inventory* of supplies and medications.  
- *Educate pet owners* on basic care (e.g., nutrition, grooming).
4. Cleaning & Maintenance:*  
- *Disinfect cages, kennels, and surgical areas.*  
- *Launder towels and bedding.*  
- *Dispose of biohazard waste* properly.
 
 
 
 
*Skills Needed:*  
✔ *Animal handling & patience* (comfort with pets & exotics).  
✔ *Basic medical knowledge* (first aid, vital signs).  
✔ *Communication skills* (with vets, techs, and clients).  
✔ *Physical stamina* (lifting animals, standing for long hours).  
✔ *Attention to detail* (following instructions precisely).
